How “Mixed Reality” can enhance your packaging operation
Virtual reality is widely used in the entertainment industry, including gaming and 3D cinema experience, but did you know similar technology can also be applied to improve your packaging processes?
We have recently introduced a “Mixed Reality” experience at our Innovation Lab in Milton Keynes to help customers visualise new packaging concepts in a real-world environment.
Mixed reality combines the real and virtual worlds, allowing actual and digital objects to co-exist and interact with each other.
Thanks to specially-programmed Microsoft HoloLens headset, customers visiting our Innovation Lab are able to walk through their packaging operation and see any cost savings and efficiency improvements recommended by our packaging experts.
All this happens on the same day and in the same place, which significantly speeds up the process of creating bespoke, cost-effective packaging solutions with the use of state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
The HoloLens headset is also fully transportable, allowing us to take the mixed reality experience right to a customer’s doorstep, which helps envisage any potential changes in their actual environment.
Launched in March 2016, Innovation Lab is an interactive platform which allows us to create smart solutions for the most demanding packaging challenges, all in one location.
The facility gives our customers the opportunity to discuss their ideas with our team in a relaxed environment and test different solutions and packing processes on the day.
Those ideas are then brought into life with our cutting-edge design facilities, on-the-spot prototype production equipment and the latest 3D software.
All this aims at helping customers reduce their packaging costs, maximise storage space and increase efficiency while minimising returns and optimising their customer experience.
