Pallet Wrap Dispensers FAQs

How do you use a pallet wrap dispenser?

Using a pallet wrap dispenser is a straightforward process that helps you efficiently wrap and secure goods on a pallet. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use a pallet wrap dispenser:

  1. Prepare the Pallet: Ensure that the items on the pallet are arranged and stacked securely. Make any necessary adjustments to ensure a stable load.
  • Unroll the Stretch Film: Begin by unrolling a section of stretch film from the roll. Allow enough length to cover the height of the load and extend a bit beyond the edges.
  • Attach the Film to the Pallet: Hold the loose end of the film against the corner or edge of the pallet. You can start at the bottom or the top, depending on your preference.
  • Secure the Film: Press the film against the pallet to make it adhere. If using a hand-held dispenser, insert the film into the slot on the dispenser’s handle to secure it.
  • Begin Wrapping: As you walk around the pallet, pull the film taut and walk backward, wrapping the film around the load. Ensure that each layer slightly overlaps the previous one for optimal stability.
  • Apply Even Tension: Keep the film stretched while wrapping, maintaining even tension to secure the load effectively. This prevents shifting during transit.
  • Continue Wrapping: Continue walking around the pallet and wrapping the film until you’ve covered the entire load. If needed, pause to adjust the film’s tension or positioning.
  • Securing the End: Once the load is fully wrapped, press the end of the film against the pallet to secure it. You can tuck it underneath the existing layers or use a separate piece of stretch film to create a secure seal.
  • Cut the Film: Use a built-in cutting mechanism on the dispenser or a utility knife to cut the film from the roll.
  • Inspect the Wrap: Check for any loose or uneven sections of the film. Adjust if necessary to ensure a secure and even wrap.

Using a pallet wrap dispenser makes the process more efficient and ergonomic, reducing the strain on your hands and allowing for consistent tension and coverage. Practice and experience will help you refine your technique for optimal load protection.

Is stretch film the same as shrink wrap?

No, stretch film and shrink wrap are not the same; they serve different purposes and have distinct characteristics:

Stretch Film:

  • Purpose: Stretch film, also known as stretch wrap or pallet wrap, is used to secure and stabilise loads on pallets during transportation and storage. It provides protection against shifting, damage, and tampering.
  • Material: Stretch film is typically made from linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) plastic. It has stretchability and elasticity, allowing it to wrap tightly around items.
  • Application: It is applied by wrapping it around the load, and its elasticity creates tension, holding the items together.
  • Process: Stretch film is stretched during application, and its elastic properties ensure it remains tightly wound around the load without needing heat.
  • Result: The tension and elasticity of stretch film create a secure hold on the load, providing stability and preventing movement.

Shrink Wrap:

  • Purpose: Shrink wrap is used for packaging individual items or entire units, creating a tight, protective covering around the product.
  • Material: Shrink wrap is typically made from polyolefin or PVC materials. It starts as a loose film and becomes tight when heat is applied.
  • Application: Shrink wrap is placed over the item or unit and then heat is applied, causing the film to shrink and conform tightly around the shape of the object.
  • Process: Heat is necessary for shrink wrap to create a secure seal and a snug fit around the item.
  • Result: Shrink wrap creates a tamper-evident, protective layer that is tightly sealed around the product.

In summary, while both stretch film and shrink wrap involve plastic wrapping, their primary uses and application methods differ. Stretch film is used to secure palletised loads, relying on elasticity, while shrink wrap is used for packaging and requires heat to conform and seal the material tightly around individual items or units.
