How do I know what custom size cardboard box I need?
The size of the box (or boxes) you need will depend on the product(s) you’re shipping. You need to take into account the size, shape, weight, and fragility of your product(s), as these will all influence what size and kind of box you need.
For example, if you ship a range of different size products or pack multiple products you may want to buy a range of different size cardboard boxes that will accommodate all your goods.
To find out what size boxes you need, you should start by measuring the length, width, and depth (or height) of your product(s). At Macfarlane Packaging, we recommend that you measure in millimetres (mm). This measurement will represent the internal dimensions you need for your box or boxes.
If you want to know the external size of a box you’re researching, you usually need to add several mm to the internal dimensions. The exact number of mm will depend on the thickness of the corrugated cardboard used to make your box. For example, if it is a single wall cardboard box or a double wall cardboard box.
