Our eighth annual unboxing survey has unpacked the online shopping experience of consumers once more. This year, during July and August,1,042 online shoppers revealed what they thought about the packaging being used by internet retailers and how it can impact their shopping experience.
The survey has taken place during a challenging time for retailers and consumers alike. Significant increases in inflation and cost-of-living at the end of 2022 spilled into 2023 and have left many with less disposable income. The knock-on effect? Internet retail revenue has seen negative growth during the first half of 2023.
Results from this year’s unboxing survey clearly highlighted the fine line that online retailers must walk to balance sustainability while managing cost, and consumer demand for increasingly eco-friendly packaging.
The results also show the significant shift in consumer opinions on packaging since the research began and how the cost-of-living may be driving shoppers online to look for better deals.
