550,000

Leading direct-to-consumer cookware brand ProCook has a long-standing relationship with Macfarlane, so were a natural choice to test our Packaging Minimiser software to optimise their packaging

When working with all customers, Macfarlane aims to offer continual improvement. This project with ProCook, aimed to ensure their packaging was right-size and ideally suited to their order profiles.

Working with exclusive software called the Packaging Minimiser, which was developed with Lancaster University, Macfarlane's team analysed over 25,000 ProCook orders profiles. The tool also factored in the range of boxes being used by ProCook to pack the orders.

The Packaging Minimiser results allowed Macfarlane's Innovation Lab to rapidly design a smaller range of 5 boxes. In practice, the new packaging range gave ProCook a six-figure financial saving

This approach enabled significant sustainability savings too, including :

  • 178 tonnes of packaging removed yearly from ProCook's operation
  • 76.8 tonnes of packaging manufacturing Co2e removed
  • 550,000 litres of void fill space cut annually - no more shipping fresh air
