Macfarlane Packaging helps feed 1 million pets in need through logistics support for Blue Cross charity
Today (5th September 2023) is International Day of Charity and Macfarlane Packaging is marking the milestone of having helped feed 1 million pets in need.
Blue Cross is one of Macfarlane’s chosen charity partners and Macfarlane supports it by providing transport and storage for pet food donations so they can be delivered to where they are needed most for the charity’s pet foodbank initiative. The team has worked with the charity since October 2022 free of charge to ensure all donations received go directly back into ensuring its pet foodbank project is a success for pet owners in need.
Working alongside other charity partners who have helped hit this milestone, the packaging distributor’s logistics team has been instrumental in delivering large, palletised pet food donations across the nation. It has made over 200 deliveries, covering more than 17,000 miles in the process, to feed hungry dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits and guinea pigs (amongst others). –
Blue Cross has partnered with Pets at Home to place donation points in every store, to support foodbanks in local communities.
In addition to logistics support, Macfarlane Packaging colleagues have also been fundraising for Blue Cross through a range of events and have so far collected over £2,000. Colleagues are also able to donate their time to Blue Cross through the Group’s Volunteer Day scheme.
Commenting on the milestone, Tim Hylton, Logistics Director for Macfarlane Packaging, said: “We’re extremely proud to have been able to contribute to feeding 1 million pets in need in the UK.
“The logistics team here have been really dedicated to the project and we look forward to working on the next phase of support for Blue Cross’s food bank initiative. It’s also been great to see so many other teams within Macfarlane getting involved through raffles, competitions and other fundraising activities.”
Chris Burghes, Chief Executive Officer at national pet charity Blue Cross, added: “Macfarlane have been instrumental in helping our charity to get vital supplies of pet food to foodbanks and owners in need across the country.
“We’re very grateful for their continued support of our project which is needed more than ever to keep families and their beloved pets together as people feel the pressure of the increasing cost of living.”
