Our Company
Macfarlane Packaging, the UK’s largest packaging distributor, is now inviting interest from experienced territory sales professionals to join our East Midlands team at a time of real excitement for the region. 2024 promises to be a memorable year with significant investment and imminent plans to help further consolidate our market-leading position whilst delighting our customers. Appointing and nurturing the best sales talent within our industry is key to our ongoing strategy.

Our territory sales roles
We are seeking to employ both Sales Executives and Key Account Managers within the East Midlands region. Reporting into the Regional Business Manager at our site in Nottingham, both roles are ‘full sales cycle.’

Join us as a Sales Executive and you can expect to manage a regional portfolio of existing customers while focusing dedicated quality time to new business generation. An ability to switch focus and dedicate adequate time to both aspects will dictate your success in meeting agreed goals and targets. You will thrive in building relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders across a range of customer accounts, continually reviewing needs and acting on opportunities to present fresh solutions.

As a Key Account Manager, you will take charge of a multimillion sales, blue-chip client portfolio, enjoying lots of autonomy in decision making and influencing desirable outcomes. Our extensive customer base boasts several high-profile, well-known brands within the wider industrial & e-commerce sectors. You will act as the main contact for your assigned customers responsible for successfully delivering solutions to meet their needs. Your success shall also be measured against account growth and gross profit targets which will require you to identify & capitalise on all opportunities to increase sales/profitability by utilising a solution-led sales approach.

One aspect that distinguishes us from the competition is our Innovation Labs, whereby your role will be supported by our on-site packaging engineers and extended team of specialists. This collaborative environment is dedicated to devising and delivering tailored solutions to our diverse range of customers who we invite into this setting.

Territory sales role responsibilities

  • Create and implement a business plan for allocated territory to maximise sales & deliver excellent standards of customer service & support
  • Maintain and develop existing accounts while also identifying new business opportunities and extending the customer base
  • Manage assigned Accounts to ensure that the Regional Sales and Profit Targets are achieved and exceeded
  • Be the main point of contact for Key Accounts, with emphasis on building relationships throughout the organisation
  • Maintain strong sales administration including the use of CRM (Dynamics) to follow up all leads, inquiries/quotes
  • Adopt a consultative approach with clients in tailoring appropriate solutions to meet needs while developing/maintaining a strong knowledge of all packaging solutions and full product range
  • Work in a constructive manner with your key internal colleagues across internal sales, logistics & procurement

Do you have the correct profile?
Our business enjoys a track record of stable and committed staff, so we are really looking for loyal, engaged, and self-motivated individuals to join an already highly successful team. You will have a minimum of two years’ experience in occupying a similar territory/field-based sales role. Prior packaging-sales experience is of particular interest to us, but we are open minded to considering individuals who can genuinely demonstrate a strong track record of sales achievement within closely affiliated sectors and industries.

You will be an effective negotiator, with the ability to build strong relationships via first-class communication and influencing skills. You will enjoy genuinely ‘adding value’ to customers as your prior experience will already have seen you selling a solution. Selling with integrity, you will be accustomed to delighting customers and be able to illustrate a recent track record of success in meeting sales targets. We would ask that you live ‘on patch’ (or very close to) the East Midlands region (and have a valid UK driving license).
Strong IT skills are also important (MS suite incorporating Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and ideally some prior use of CRM systems – important for analysing & reporting on sales data.

We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds irrespective of your age, gender, disability, race, nationality, ethnicity, gender identity, religion, or sexual orientation. Should you require any specific support or adjustments during the recruitment process, please email our recruitment team directly.
