Package: Basic Salary £38,000 to £40,000 + Bonus and other Company benefits
Hours:40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 7am – 3pm

The Company
GWP, one of the UK’s leading packaging manufacturers, are looking for a Production Manager to join our established team. You will become part of a business established for more than 30 years, with a strong history of producing sustainable and environmentally friendly packaging. Being part of Macfarlane PLC (the UK’s largest packaging distributor) and experiencing strong growth over the past three years.
The Production Manager role
We are looking for a Production Manager to oversee a team of 4 Team Leaders, Assembly Manager, Evening Shift Leader, Production Planner and approximately 30+ full time staff. This role is responsible for overseeing the shifts Production facilities, ensuring that the goods are produced efficiently, on time and to a high standard as per the customers’ specification. The role is responsible for completing the daily plan and holding Team Leaders, Assembly Manager and Shift Leader accountable for their team’s performance. This role would suit someone who is very hands on but can also step back and see the bigger picture and make strategic decisions in a fast paced environment.
The Production Manager Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Operations Manager, your role will involve the following activities:
Main
• Oversee the production process, co-ordinate production plans ensuring resources are allocated appropriately. This includes Production and Assembly Unit on day shift.
• Own process efficiency for both shifts, both driving improvements and delegating tasks to the team leaders and their teams;
• Follow the daily plan and be able to change the plan as required to meet customer requirements.
• To build and develop the production team; ensuring people are adequately trained and held accountable to meet performance criteria.
Communications
• Liaise throughout the day with Production Planner and at end of shift with the Evening Shift Leader. Day shift concludes at 3pm, Evening shift commences at 3.15pm.
• Responsible for the upward communication of issues as and when required and handover communications.
• To be fully involved in x 2 daily operations meetings on progress of required jobs.
• To be fully involved in daily assembly meeting.
HR
• To Conduct inductions and probation reviews on new staff and appraising of existing team members annually.
• To continue to improve the absence levels on both shifts by continually monitoring and managing absences via return to works, file notes and disciplinaries.
• Manage clocking of staff making sure they are paid correctly.
• To always be available for staff to speak to you and also invite for conversation and file note where necessary.
• To carry out Disciplinary hearings as required for the Shift.
Health and Safety
• Ensure all safety requirements and training are adhered to at all times as per Health and Safety Policy, risk assessments and Safe Work Practices.
• To encourage safe work practice and use of behavioural observations.
• Manage staff PPE adherence including company uniform.
Quality
• To create quality alerts as and when required to keep operatives focused on what is causing issues for our customers.
• To produce machine figures on a weekly basis and communicate performance to team leaders and manage that they are being communicated down the line to machine operatives.
Do you have the correct profile?
If you have any or all of the following skills and experience, you will be a good fit for this position. However, if you have similar experience working within a Production environment and can demonstrate transferrable skills, please get in touch.
• Previous Management experience in a manufacturing facility of a large team;
• Use of IT systems including MS Office and some type of MRP/Production Planning package;
• Working with heavy manufacturing machinery;
• Experience of coaching and mentoring staff;
• Positive mindset
• Strategic, wants to create a plan for Production going forward.
• Approachable, easy to work with.
• KPI Reporting
Preferred but not necessary experience:
• Experience working with corrugated materials.
• H&S qualification (IOSH)
• Counterbalance Forklift License
• First aid at work qualification
• Lean implementation (Six sigma or similar lean qualification would be advantageous but not necessary)
• JIT/Kanban production – batch methods
• Leadership / Management qualification (ILM, CMI or similar)
